Energy Saving Information

Energy saving is not only good for the environment is also a great way to save money, especially against a background of rapidly rising electricty, gas and oil prices!

We will be introducing energy saving products in the future, currently we are evaluating a number of products and systems.  While we do that, there are a few important tips and advice available on how you can make a difference and get greener:

Insulation
  • Make sure your loft insulation is at least 270mm deep.
  • For houses with cavity walls (generally those built in the 1920's and later) make sure you have cavity wall insulation.
  • If you have solid walls consider adding insulation to the internal or external surfaces.
  • If you don't have double glazing consider fitting windows with sealed units or introduce secondary glazing.
  • Fit draft proofing.
  • Consider introducing floor insulation.
  • Don't forget to lag your hot water cylinder and any primary water pipes.

Heating
  • Install a condensing boiler.
  • Use heating controls to optimise room temperatures.
  • Turn your heating thermostat down by at least 1 degree.

Electricity
  • Buy only 'A Energy Rated' electrical appliances.
  • Fit energy saving lightbulbs throughout your home.
  • Always turn lights off when leaving a room or consider fitting movement sensors.
  • Turn appliances off at the mains and avoid standby power.
  • Wash your clothes at 30 degrees.
  • Only boil as much water as you need in the kettle.
